Automated Retrieval Unit

This unit works to assist students and researchers in searching and automatically retrieving information on sources through the electronic indexes available in the library for books, references, periodicals, theses and dissertations.

           Electronic Indexes Unit

Due to the accuracy and speed of work provided by computers, especially when working on large databases, so it was necessary to direct the library's work towards electronic programs and systems, so a committee was formed from one of the programmers in the central library with a group of engineers and programmers affiliated with the Ministry of Industry and Minerals to work for the central library for the purpose of designing and programming these systems, and work has been on this project since the end of 2010, and indeed several systems have been designed and introduced to work and the work has reached very advanced stages, noting that these systems share in being networked data systems prepared by MS Access that can be dealt with by more than one user at the same time and deal with a central (database) in terms of data feeding or retrieval (search and editing operations.

The automatic index of publications-

- Index of periodicals

- Index of theses and dissertations of Iraqi universities

- Work is underway in a special index and booklet for references

Automated Systems Used in the Central Library Data Base Excess

Electronic Index System

System Objectives

A- Facilitating the process of searching for the library's contents such as books, references, treatises, CDs, manuscripts, anecdotes ... etc. in the library for researchers and students for the purpose of borrowing according to the author's name, book title, or topic.

B - Preparing various reports about the library's contents in terms of numbers and types, very quickly.

    C - Save data electronically

D- The ease and accuracy of preparing quarterly and annual inventory reports.

The number of entries in the system reached (72930) in Arabic and (22472) in English.

This system was also circulated to the colleges and centers of the university for the purpose of indexing the contents of their branch libraries and unifying them with the index of the Central Library to make it easier for the researcher from one place to search within all university libraries to access the books or the required information.

The colleges have started sending their paper indexes to the central library, and the specialized staff has entered the data of their faculties into the system, and the number of entries for each of them has reached so far:
